"Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at Hand..."
Conversion. Transformation. Flourishing.
For the coming season of Lent, we have decided to explore the themes of repentance and conversion, words which are frequently noted when talking about the significance of Christ's life, death, and resurrection. At first glance, the word "repent" can draw mixed reactions, often of sin, past mistakes or life decisions, and a sense of impending judgement or finality. It is unlikely that our first thought is of conversion and transformation, let alone flourishing! Yet, it is in this sense that Scripture so often speaks about what we translate as "repentance."
Over the course of nine pre-recorded videos, our three presenters will explore how different books in the Bible talk about repentance and conversion.
Jessie will explore the theme in the Prophets, where God's people turn to other gods and concerns again and again, despite the warnings of prophets.
Kieran will look at the Acts of the Apostles, with its many, many stories of conversion. In particular, the focus will be on the conversion of Saul, the story of the Ethiopian eunuch and, finally, the marvellous tableau of Acts 10:1-11:18 (Cornelius and his household, Peter and the Jerusalem community).
Seán will examine how Paul, himself a convert on the road to Damascus, understands his own experience and how he relates this in his letters to the Early Christian communities (specifically 2 Corinthians, Philippians, and Philemon). While Paul does not use the language of "repentance" or "conversion," he makes clear that his encounter with the Risen Christ was a fully transformative event, changing not only his perspective but his actions.

The course will feature a total of nine pre-recorded presentations, three from each presenter, which can be enjoyed at your own pace once the course goes live. In addition to the presentations, there will also be two live Zoom webinars: a meditation session based on the texts and themes of the course, and a Q&A where you can submit questions to the presenters.
